This one is entirely my fault. Early on in my research for this website I followed a false clue and believed that the 1900 Bortfeldt Tropical Helmet was instead introduced in 1902. I was clearly wrong but several other writers copied my mistake online and in print. I'm sorry to have caused this confusion, we're none of us perfect. So, if anytime you see a reference to a 1902 Bortfeldt tropical helmet, you now know to ignore it and you also know who to blame for the mistake!
