This helmet was worn by the fire brigade (Feuerwehr) in Swakopmund, German South West Africa. It is very similar to fireman's helmets worn in Germany at the time and is clearly based on a simplified Pickelhaube design. It consists of a leather helmet with front and rear peaks but with a brass crest instead of a spike and a brass front plate showing a fireman's helmet upon crossed axes. The chinstrap is plain leather and the helmet has no cockades.
