MedalThe original owner of this medal bar
was possibly Hungarian by birth yet served in the German armed
forces. He was an other ranks combat veteran of the Herero Rebellion and the
First World War. His Prussian and German medals have precedence on
the bar, showing him to be in German service as does his Prussian
long service medal. The Austro-Hungarian Iron Cross was
instituted
in 1916 and was usually for NCOs and other ranks. The
Hungarian Commemorative War Medal
was instituted in 1929 for Hungarian veterans of the First World
War.
