Bavarian Bar with an Ottoman Medal
Photo © Thomas Millow
The medals on this bar in order of
seniority from left to right are-
Prussian 1914 Iron Cross, second class
Bavarian
Military Merit Order, fourth
class with swords
1914-18 Honour Cross for combatants
Ottoman Liakat Medal, in gold with clasp and sabres
The original owner of this medal bar was a
Bavarian officer who most likely served alongside the Ottoman army
during the First World War. This bar dates from the 1930s, as is
seen by the Honour Cross, instituted in 1934. From the 1930s even
Bavarian officers had to wear the Prussian Iron Cross ahead of their
home state awards.
