Bar of a Brunswick Veteran of the Herero Rebellion and the First World War

For Sale at Der Rittmeister

The medals on this bar in order of seniority from left to right are-

1914-18 Honour Cross for combatants
1904-08 South West Africa Campaign Medal
for combatants
Brunswick 1914 War Service Cross, second class
for non-combatants
Prussian Landwehr Long Service Award

The original owner of this medal bar was a Brunswick soldier who served in the Herero Rebellion and later in the First World War. Curiously the clasp for his South West African campaign ("Omaheke") in incorrectly attached to the ribbon of his Brunswick 1914 War Service Cross. Brunswick did not issue their own Long Service Awards. Their soldiers earned Prussian Long Service Awards instead.
